House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries has called for the immediate ouster of South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem during an appearance on MS NOW. Jeffries described Noem as “despicable,” “corrupt,” and a “pathological liar.” He also accused her of being “deeply unqualified” for her position.
Jeffries stated that House Democrats are ready to start impeachment proceedings if Noem is not removed from office. In his remarks, Jeffries referenced the tragic deaths of two American citizens, Alex Pretti and Renee Good, who were killed in Minneapolis. He emphasized the need for accountability and indicated that a growing number of House Democrats are ready to support impeachment.
House Democrats are prepared to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Noem if she remains in office, citing a need for accountability.
In just one day, co-sponsors for impeachment articles jumped from 145 to 162, reflecting a significant increase in support. Jeffries issued a joint statement with fellow leaders Katherine Clark and Pete Aguilar, highlighting their demand for Noem’s immediate firing. The statement from the Democratic leaders warned that impeachment proceedings could begin in the House if Noem does not step down.
They expressed disgust over actions taken by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and insisted that violence must end. They made it clear that there’s an “easy way or hard way” to resolve this situation. Noem’s controversial comments about the Minneapolis incidents have drawn severe criticism.
She suggested that Pretti attacked officers during the shooting and framed Good’s death as an act of domestic terrorism. Critics argue her remarks contradicted the facts and did irreparable damage. Republican leaders have also called for Noem to resign.
Senators Thom Tillis and Lisa Murkowski publicly stated that it’s time for Noem to step down. Senate Majority Leader John Thune expressed that this is an inflection point for evaluating Noem’s leadership. In response, House Democrats, including Jamie Raskin, are planning inquiries into impeachment evidence, while Senators and state leaders coordinate efforts to hold Noem accountable for the DHS’s actions against American citizens.
