trump invites putin collaboration

Former President Donald Trump has announced a new initiative called the “Gaza Board of Peace,” inviting world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, to join. The announcement came via Trump’s platform, Truth Social, where he called the board the “Greatest and Most Prestigious Board ever assembled.” A formal signing ceremony is set for Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Initially meant to focus on rebuilding Gaza, the board’s charter draft surprisingly omits any direct mention of Gaza. The initiative aligns with a 20-point peace plan aimed at demilitarizing the region and promoting reconstruction. This plan has backing from the UN Security Council Resolution 2803, which supports a Comprehensive Plan for peace.

Invitations have been sent to around 60 countries, including Argentina, Canada, Turkey, and Egypt, but reactions from leaders have mostly been cautious or muted. Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, even warned against being manipulated in this process.

The charter of the board defines it as an international organization that aims to promote stability and peace in conflict areas. It suggests a coalition of willing states to facilitate effective peace-building. Membership lasts three years, with permanent status available for countries that contribute over $1 billion in the first year. Decisions will be made by majority vote, but the chairman, who will be Trump, has final authority on interpretations of the charter.

Trump’s leadership team includes notable figures like Tony Blair and Jared Kushner. They will be supported by a senior advisor team focusing on strategy and operations. Major General Jasper Jeffers has been appointed to lead the security aspect of the initiative. Additionally, U.S. officials indicate intense planning for governance in Gaza as part of the board’s broader mission.

As the world watches, the Kremlin is studying the invitation and plans to contact Washington for clarification. The White House is expected to announce the official member list soon, possibly during the meeting in Davos.
